On Monday 30th April, the Kambrya Instrumental Music students were treated to a rare opportunity to see one of Melbourne’s hardest working session drummers live on stage in an exclusive masterclass. Gerry Pantazis is the kind of drummer you’ll see on live TV doing events such as Carols By Candlelight, Australia’s Got Talent or Dancing With the Stars. Not to mention performing and recording with some of Australia’s biggest artists – Guy Sebastian ,Shannon Noel, David Campbell, Anthony Callea, Casey Donovan, Rob Mills, Kate DeAraugo, Lee Harding, Tommy Emmanuel , Bachelor Girl and Human Nature to name a few!

The students were treated to 90 mins of blistering musical performance but also some amazing informative interview time where Gerry explained how to handle the pressure of gigs like live TV, how he prepares for performance, what a session musician is, how he keeps on top of his technique, how to be a better musician and how he would learn 50 songs in a week for one gig! Students from all instrument focuses were able to take away something from this amazing masterclass. The music department looks forward to presenting more masterclasses like this one in the future for music students and we thank Gerry Pantazis for being so accommodating and awesome!
